Where It All Started
In 1993, Glen Sr. and his wife were shopping for a storage shed in Upstate New York and spotted an opportunity: quality outdoor products at fair prices were hard to find. They discovered the Amish craftsmen of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and what they built was second to none. That discovery launched Custom Sheds & Gazebos, a business the family ran for 20 years, expanding into outdoor furniture, playsets, and more.
When the family relocated to Florida, history repeated itself. They went looking for a retractable awning and found the same problems they had seen decades earlier: poor salesmanship, inflated pricing, and quality that didn't justify the cost. Rather than settle, they went searching, and found Aristocrat Awnings, a Pennsylvania-made product line with the craftsmanship and value they had built their careers on.
Sunbird Awnings & Shades was born from that search. The mission is simple: bring the best retractable awnings available to the Gulf Coast, install them right, and price them fairly, every time.
